Second Sunday of Lent

28th February 2021

Children’s Resource

In today’s Gospel we hear the story of Jesus and three of his disciples going to a mountain where they meet two important prophets from the past, Moses and Elijah.  Suddenly Jesus becomes whiter than white, so bright that it is hard to gaze upon him and the voice of God the Father comes from the clouds and says,

“This is My Son, My Beloved, listen to Him”.

The Gospel of Mark 9:2-9 (ICB)

After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There, he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.

Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”  (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)

Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”

Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.

As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

 Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I Love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my Soul. Since I cannot, at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.
