Saint Patrick’s Day

Parish Video Resource

The following video was produced to mark and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, it has been compiled to reflect on the role each one of us plays as caretakers and stewards of the World we live in.

It is easy, sometimes,  to see environmental issues, climate change and ecology as distant and somewhat removed from our own reality.

In the video below Bishop Michael Router visits Maghery, Loughgall Parish, which is situated on the shores of Lough Neagh. He reflects on Saint Patrick’s closeness and affinity to Lough Neagh and particularly Coney Island.

Lough Neagh is Largest freshwater lake in Ireland and indeed in the UK. Whilst its beauty is evident, its importance in ecological terms is sometimes understated and Lough Neagh is currently under much stress, with the effects of pollution and climate change clearly evident.

In 205 Pope Francis wrote an encyclical ‘Ludato SI’ on care for our common home and the link is attached below. We invite you all to watch Bishop Michael’s video and to read Pope Francis Encyclical.
